HLFPPT Andhra Pradesh Social Marketing Program

Social Marketing Program
HLFPPT has commenced its operations in Andhra Pradesh in 1999 with the implementation of the State Management Agency (SMA) for APSACS. In 2000, HLFPPT started the implementation of the Andhra Pradesh Social Marketing Programme (APSMP) with funding from the Government of India. The programme worked on social marketing of contraceptives in order to increase family planning and spacing using temporary contraceptives. This was followed up with a second phase of APSMP which ran from 2004 to 2007 and worked exclusively in over 10,000 villages with population ranging from 1,000 to 10,000.

HLFPPT has created and nurtured a network of RMPs in the state. This network has been called the Tarang Network and the members are called Tarang Partners. Internal research has shown that the RMP is the first source of information, counseling and treatment for all ailments in the village, this being especially true where access to an MBBS doctor is very low and far away. Thus, the RMP acts as a very strong influencer of people's behaviour when it comes to health and healthcare in villages. Thus, HLFPPT set about creating a network of over 10,000 Tarang Partners who act as counselors and depot holders for the concepts and products promoted by the programme.

AP condom promotion Campaign
HLFPPT has also implemented the Condom Promotion Programme, funded first by the DFID for a period of 3 years and subsequently by NACO for a period of 6 months. Through these programmes, HLFPPT has managed to increase the access and availability of condoms by opening over 15,000 non traditional outlets and by installing condom vending machines in key high risk areas. HLFPPT has also created the Unda mee deggarai communication campaign and produced television advertisements in Telugu specifically targeted to the population in the state.

Technical Support Unit
HLFPPT is the Technical Support Unit under NACP III functioning in coordination with the APSACS for the state of Andhra Pradesh. Earlier, it was the Project Support Unit (PSU) under NACP II for the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Swagati
HLFPPT has been implementing Swagati programme for HIV Prevention among the most vulnerable populations in nine coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh with support from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).This programme covers 30,000 sex workers and 10,000 MSM (Men who have Sex with Men)population in 9 coastal districts of the state.
