Community Based Social Marketing Program
HLFPPT has commenced its operations in Jharkhand in 2001 with the implementation of the community based social marketing programme in the four identified high priority districts. This programme was based on the design of the community based social marketing programme and over the three years 2004-2007 marketed 10 million condoms and 958,000 lakh cycles of oral pills through a community based social marketing network of 2000 Tarang partners located in 3143 villages of the districts of Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Gumla and Lohardhaga. The 3143 villages represent 65% of villages and 85% of the rural population of these four districts. The community based social marketing network has been able to make deep inroads to the naxalite infested villages and been able to gain credibility of operation through the last seven years operation.
HLFPPT has commenced an innovative initiative with the department of posts in the four districts where community based social marketing has been implemented. Of the 3300 post offices in the four districts 550 post offices have been selected for the social marketing intervention. This programme has been launched in March 2007 through 800 postmen attached to these 550 post offices. Over the twelve months period the sales reported through this network is 1.6 million condoms and 15,000 cycles. Besides condoms and pills postmen have been supplied all other products like mosquito coils, sanitary napkins, ORS and IFA tablets. The postal department is keen to scale this initiative up throughout all districts of Jharkhand.
Recently, we have been implementing the NACO supported social marketing programme in eleven districts of Jharkhand. This project over the four month has covered 5000 villages, opened 6000 outlets and attained a sale of 5.5 million condoms, 1.2 lakh cycles of OCP. This marketing programme is operated through a network of 22 stockists, 8000 retailers and 2000 Tarang partners serviced by a team of 3 Area Managers, 22 Field Sales Officers and 15 promotion staff.
HLFPPT has linkages with over 20 NGOs working on various health programmes and on ground execution of marketing programmes. HLFPPT has been collaborating lead institutions in Jharkhand like Ramakrishna Mission, Krishi Gram VIkas Kendra, CARE and CINI.
