NIPI:
HLFPPT got associated with Norway India Partnership Initiatives (NIPI) to work towards bettering neo-natal care in the grass roots of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan. The Norway- India Partnership Initiative is an outcome of the commitment by the Prime Minister of Norway and the Prime Minister of India, focusing on the issue of reducing child mortality and improving child health to attain the Millennium Development Goal 4 by the year 2015. Norway has contributed $80 million over five years for this purpose to five states of Orissa, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. These States together constitute 40 percent of India's population and contribute almost 60% of child deaths in India. In Rajasthan, initially, 3 districts - Bharatpur, Dausa and Alwar, are selected for intensive implementation.
Owing to the commitment, a visit of the Norway PM was slated to happen on February 6th, 2008. HLFPPT pitched in to lend its technical expertise towards the preparations for the visit. Our team also went for a pre-assessment study of the overall medical services, especially neo-natal care facilities, at two Primary Health Centres (PHC) of Bharatpur District in the month of December. The Norway Prime Minister, Mr. Jens Stoltenberg visited the Rarah CHC as well as held a talk with ASHA workers and JSY beneficiaries at Takha on the 6th of February, 2008. Our members from the TSD team at NOIDA office were a part of different activities during the whole month of January and thus contributed in what may be called as the beginning of a wave of healthy and surviving new borns.
